The Hengrave Hall Manuscripts represent one of the finest surviving Tudor archives. They comprise the papers of the Kytsons (or Kitsons), Gages and Rokewoods, whose main seat was Hengrave Hall in Suffolk. The Kitson family papers include letters from King Henry VIII, Queen Mary, Sir Philip Sydney, Fulke Greville and many other prominent figures. The household & building accounts document the construction of Hengrave Hall in the early 16th cent. and theatrical and musical performances in the house. The antiquarian collections of Sir Thomas Gage and his brother John Gage are present and include the vast collection of Suffolk documents assembled by Peter Le Neve.
