The archive of the Enys family of St Gluvias, Penryn, on deposit at Cornwall Record Office for over 40 years, comprises 80 boxes of papers and c. 30 linear metres of volumes, containing title deeds and leases, 1298-1924; estate administration records, including surveys, rentals, correspondence and accounts, 1646-1933; manorial records, 1603-1868; business records, merchants papers and accounts, 1704-1933; mining records, including setts, assignments, accounts, correspondence and legal papers, 1614-1904; family papers and public office, 1513-1922; manuscripts collected by the family, 1298-1940; and maps and plans, 1705-1910. The archive documents the rise to prominence of this Cornish gentry family based on the fortunes of commerce, the rental of considerable amounts of property and a share in the profits of the burgeoning British tin and copper mining industry in the early modern era.
