The first (Lot 30) acquired at auction was a Court Baron for Carshalton dating from 1682 to 1833. This volume had been absent from our records for more than fifty years, before they came into our custody, so we were very keen to acquire it. The manorial records we hold for Carshalton date from 1346 to 1936 and comprise one of our more extensive and important collections, so obtaining this volume was seen as a priority.

The second lot (Lot 31) was described as the minutes of the Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor in Carshalton, 1691-1746. The volume contains a great deal of account information, in addition to minutes, including details of those in receipt of parish relief. Once again this was seen as a very important addition to our collection as we already hold the Churchwardens accounts, 1764-1817, Overseers Accounts, 1780-1806 and the Vestry minutes, 1748-1839.

The third and final lot (Lot 57) is a thin volume containing a valuation of the Parish of Carshalton, 1839. It was made for the purposes of the Parochial Assessment Act of 1839 by John Foakes and William Roberts. Unfortunately the map which would have accompanied the valuation is missing, which meant that we were able to acquire it for only £50. The volume very much complements our Carshalton tithe and rate book collection and is out of the ordinary in that it includes all rateable properties, not just largely agricultural land.

The documents are accessioned into the archive collection (Accession 915) and are available to researchers any time we are open.
