Together with the usual rentals, accounts and plans for the familys estates, there are diaries and correspondence of family members. The outstanding group is that of Sir Jeffery, 1st Baron Amherst, who played a significant role in the European campaigns of the 1740s-50s, the War of the Austrian Succession, the Seven Years War and most importantly, the American campaigns of 1758-63 and the American war of Independence 1775 - 1781. His journal gives a day by day account of the campaigns
