The diary together with a volume of autobiography gives a very detailed picture of the life thoughts and opinions of the great leader of the Evangelical wing of the Church of England and prime mover in the campaign for the abolition of slavery. The collection includes 100 letters from Wilberforce and over 300 to him from eminent contemporaries. They provide a wealth of information about public events, foreign affairs, on slavery and the slave trade, on Catholic emancipation and dissenters at home and their missions abroad.
