The single most important source for the history of music in England during the 19th century. The archive includes the autograph manuscript of Mendelssohns 1st Symphony and a copyists score of Beethovens 9th Symphony, dedicated by Beethoven to the Society. There is also a most extensive collection of correspondence files, working papers and minute books detailing the negotiations with composers performers and publishers in preparation for each seasons concerts.
